Paul Gutierrez received his law degree from Harvard Law School. His legal practice spans 30 years and focuses on labor and employment, real estate and commercial litigation. He is a member of the faculty of St. Mary's College where he teaches Employment Law as part of the B. A. (Law) and Paralegal Programs. He serves as a member of the faculty of the "Advocacy Skills Workshop" at Stanford Law School and is also a faculty member of the "Intensive Advocacy Program" at the University of San Francisco School of Law. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTLA) and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) as a result of his trial experience. By recommendation and appointment, Gutierrez serves as a Judge of the Superior Court (Pro Tem.) and as arbitrator for the San Francisco Superior Court. In addition, he serves as a mediator for the San Francisco Superior Court's Early Settlement Program as well as a panelist on the Early Settlement Program for the Marin County Superior Court. Gutierrez has received extensive training as a commercial mediator. He is a mediator and arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and has received additional ADR and industry training from the NASD. Gutierrez has served as a member of the Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association (AAA), where he regularly handled commercial disputes. He also served on the AAA's Northern Advisory Council. As a member of the faculty at the Mediation and Arbitration Day sponsored by the AAA, he participated in a seminar on "Basic Commercial/Construction Arbitrator Training." He has also been a guest speaker on ADR at San Francisco State University and a panelist on ADR at the California Minority Counsel Program's roundtable series. Gutierrez was with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict and was an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration following his Honorable Discharge.
