Tom Cohen brings a wealth of "real life" experience which enables him to relate to litigants in a way that few mediators can. His mediation practice has included entertainment, real estate, intellectual property, personal injury, contract and business dissolution matters. Cohen's legal practice encompasses both federal and state courts, where he is experienced in complex civil litigation and class actions. His clients have ranged from the well known (Buckminster Fuller; Lenny Bruce) regarding rights of publicity and copyright to the unknown (tens of thousands of U-Haul customers) concerning a consumer class action for false advertising. While Cohen has tried his share of high profile cases, which have resulted in large settlements and published opinions, his skill as a mediator stems from many factors. Before becoming a lawyer, Cohen worked at KQED TV and later produced and directed two independent feature films. He built, by hand, the house he lives in and owns a small business, which manufactures Ursack, a bear resistant food bag for campers. As an entrepreneur, Cohen acquired several traits which help him focus on problem solving instead of protracted litigation. Those traits include: perseverance, optimism, a sense of humor, steadiness, and integrity. He has served as a court appointed mediator or arbitrator for the Superior Courts of San Francisco, Marin, Contra Costa and Alameda, as well as the Arts Arbitration and Mediation Services of the California Lawyers for the Arts. Parties have appreciated his demeanor, hard work, wisdom, and most of all, results. Hourly Rate: $200 |
