The Organization
The California Minority Counsel Program (“CMCP”) emerged in 1989 in response to the disparity between the percentage of minorities in the state population and in the state’s legal profession. Since then, its mission has been to increase the diversity in California’s legal profession and to provide professional opportunities for attorneys of color. It is CMCP’s firm belief that the legal community and the industries it serves benefit greatly from California’s rich and diverse community of legal service providers. To that end, CMCP has assisted numerous corporations, law firms and public agencies in their commitment to diversifying the legal profession and providing access to talented diverse attorneys who might otherwise continue unnoticed. CMCP does this through independent initiatives and partnerships with like-minded organizations.

The Position

Approaching its 20th year in service, CMCP is in an exciting period of growth seeks to expand offered services to its members. The Director of Membership and Development is responsible for the achievement of CMCP's membership and development objectives set by Executive Director and Board. In the Membership capacity, this position will focus on membership recruitment and retention in each targeted region of Sacramento , San Francisco , Silicon Valley Los Angeles and San Diego . In the Development capacity, this position will create and implement resource development strategies for sustainability. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Duties

  • Create and develop annual marketing plan to increase membership growth and retention and to develop a volunteer and internship pool; including recruitment strategies and outreach campaigns identifying and promoting CMCP, its mission and its membership benefits for each member constituency, in each targeted region, as well as for the general legal industry and public.
  • Manage all membership communication and records, including membership correspondence; inquiries regarding CMCP membership and communications with prospective members.
  • Assist the Executive Director in oversight management of the membership and developments aspects of the Annual Business Development Conference, including management of sponsorships and registration.
  • Lead the design and administration of regular membership audit, including a comprehensive constituency assessment; create analytical progress and assessment reports, and future membership expansion recommendations and projections for Executive Director.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit individual, corporate and foundation support and funding opportunities for CMCP initiatives; including sponsorship opportunities, annual funding campaigns and special project funding programs.
  • Manage the grant proposal development and submission process.
  • Manage established resource development strategies and goals; provide support and recommendations to the Executive Director for resource development strategy, earned revenue projects and annual operating budget development.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable knowledge and success in marketing and communications and fundraising experience, including sponsorship development; demonstrable experience in working with numerical and statistical data in order assess current and projected demographic or economic shifts and changes; priority will be given to background in and knowledge of nonprofit management and leadership. Experience in project management a plus.
  • Degree in marketing, communications, organizational development, business, nonprofit management, or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and expertise; experience in legal field or related area a plus.
  • Must be culturally sensitive and able to persuasively present CMCP's mission.
  • A strong work ethic, complimented with a dedication to excellent customer service, professionalism, resourcefulness, excellence, creativity, teamwork, cooperative action, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to travel (day and overnight trips) to attend programs and events in regional targets.
  • Experience training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel or volunteers desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word), Data Base Management (ie Miscrosoft Access) and Marketing software (ie InDesign).Exceptional interpersonal, strategic, analytical, organizational, motivational, creative, personal sales, and written and oral communication skills.
