About Us & Our Mission

The Work Life Balance Initiative was established by 2006 President Joan Haratani. The Initiative, with its task force of more than 50 attorneys, legal professionals and representatives from local law schools, culminated in a half-day conference in September 2006.

The information and best practices discussed at the conference were a result of a survey of the legal community that asked about part-time policies for partners and associates. Topics included:

  • Can We Afford Part Time? The Business Case for Balanced Hours
  • GenX and GenY Speak: A Panel of Younger Attorneys Tells Us What They Can Provide, Want and Need
  • Best Practices:Work/Life Measures that Really Work
